Originating from Resilience, Gee Leather Craft Company is a distinctive local leather crafting business in Myanmar. We launched our venture during the second wave of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 and have successfully positioned ourselves with unique personalized products catering to a niche market. During the third wave of COVID-19, we contributed to the community by distributing food and medicine, as showcased in our milestone page, using our initial business profits. We are committed to providing vocational training for youth, enabling them to secure a sustainable income during crises. Our Leather Bag Workshop Training School continues to support these individuals in becoming independent entrepreneurs. Our primary focus lies in offering customization services for classic leather bags and accessories for all genders, catering to both retail and corporate markets.

Gee Leather is at the forefront of expanding innovative vegan leather production. We utilize rejected mangoes and peels from the local market as alternatives to animal leather. Our decision to expand vegan leather production is driven by the aim to replace animal agriculture, which is linked to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and other environmental concerns. This initiative reflects our commitment to a more sustainable and compassionate approach to the fashion industry. PYI THEIN KYAW

Sustainability Ethics: Mr. Pyi established the leather customization business in June 2020, following several years of service as a Seafarer with Uniteam Marine. With a BSc in Physics and over 9 years of global experience, he possesses a profound understanding of pollution prevention and sustainability.

Creative Professionalism: Having completed a premium bag course at the Bangkok Crafting School, Mr. Pyi oversees production, operations, and serves as the creative designer at Gee Leather. Vegan Leather Startup: Driven by his passion, Mr. Pyi aims to expand his company’s footprint in protecting animals and the planet through sustainable practices. Leveraging his previous experience, he is committed to creating more job opportunities within the nation and boosting foreign income for his country.

HNIN THAZIN PHYO

Communication & Marketing Expert: Mrs. Phyo established the leather customization business in June 2020, following several years of service in the Tourism field with Travelife Sustainability at a DMC company. Holding a B.A in English, she boasts over 8 years of international experience in sustainability and marketing.

Women Empowerment: She is a grant recipient of the UN Women-led MSMES IN PERI-URBAN in March 2023. Additionally, Mrs. Phyo has successfully completed the Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment program by UNDP. Networking & Environmental Specialist: Mrs. Phyo successfully completed the Transformative Feminist Leadership Program Batch 9 by ActionAid. She is responsible for business development, quality control, and customer services.

Vegan Leather Startup: With an expansion plan in mind, Mrs. Phyo is dedicated to advancing her company’s mission of protecting animals and the planet through sustainable production. She aims to create more job opportunities within the nation and enhance foreign income for her country.

BEFORE:

Launched during the COVID-19 lockdown 2nd wave in 2020 and successfully navigated challenging times to establish our unique personalised quality and service in leather products.
Started with a team of 2 and have now expanded to create 5 job opportunities within the community.
Achieved recognition in the Corporate Sales Market with partnerships from BAT, Marvius, AIA, PDM Trading, MIH, JDM, Lucky Charm, and NM Group.
Awarded Grand Winner of the Women-led MSMES IN PERI-URBAN Programme by UN Women (Nov 2022 – Mar 2023)
Initiated operations in a small factory and later expanded to a larger production facility in North Dagon Township in 2023.
Shortlisted as an entrepreneur for Grow Together BizPitch in Nov 2023.
Had successfully established a plant-based vegan leather factory.

AFTER:

Following our new expansion plan for Vegan Leather Production with an investment of 100,000,000 MMK, we aim to increase the net profit margin by at least 21% by 2025-26 and create sustainable income opportunities for farmers and individuals from rural areas with basic education backgrounds through waste collection from farms and forests.
We are committed to creating more job opportunities through the expansion plan of Vegan Leather Production and providing technical support for the younger generation to become independent entrepreneurs.
Our goal is to reduce foreign currency expenses and increase foreign income by utilizing waste from farms and natural forests.
We prioritize animal welfare, promoting cruelty-free and ethical vegan leather production.
